Natural Disasters

It is amazing the force some of the recent storms and earthquakes have stuck our world with. There was an earthquake in China ranking in at a magnitude of 7.9 which totally destroyed cities and killed about 12,000 people. The tornadoes in the west just get worse and worse. The Noreastern we just had had winds up to 70 mph and torential down pours flooding many coastal areas. The facts which prove my theory that the world is coming to an end.

Do you think the world will become more peaceful in the next 10 years? Discuss.

The World is only going to become more, and more impoverished and violent over the next 10 years. I believe the World will never be a completely peaceful place. Over time things will get worse and worse with the advancement in new technologies and weaponry. Violence is at its lower stages and will only get worse with time.

Should cigarettes be made illegal? Why or why not?

HELL NO!! There is no reason which cigarettes should be made illegal. I smoke along with probably about 75% of the population. Yeh cigarettes kill, but so do dogs. Should we outlaw dogs and kill everyone that comes into sight? I think not. It is our choice to smoke even when aware of the consequences.

What factors make a job or career satisfying? Discuss.

Their are many factors which make a job or career satisfying. One of the biggest factors is managment. If you are being bossed around and yelled at by an asshole with rank, clearly your not going to be happy. The people you work with are the second most important. You have to be happy with, and friendly with the people you work with or it can make your job miserable. Wages are an obvious factor. No one wants to be paid like shit when they are out busting their ass.

What qualities of character does it take to be a survivor? Discuss.

There are many characteristics someone must have to be a survivor. To survive in this world you must be smart and strong. You have to be able to fight through the eveyrday troubles we call life. You have to be smart and learn to read people and make the right decisions, as quick as possible because their is always someone out there to get you. You must work hard and portray a positive work ethic and attitude.

What is good and bad about American schools? Discuss.

There is so much good and so much bad about the American school system. American schools are very expensive but provide very good education in most areas. The American school system can be very exclusive to those who are minorities and economically unstable. The rich, high class population is proven to recieve a much better education than those who are poor, lower class. The schools teach a very large variety of subjects and create a multicultural society.

To what degree should parents influence their teenagers' choices of dates and friends? Discuss.

Parents shouldnt determine who their children hangout with completely. Parents do have a say clearly if their children are with the scumbags and druggies but shouldnt set who their kids chill with. Parents should get to know the childs friends so they can give their advice as to how this person could affect them. Picking who their kids hangout with could cause unhappiness because the people they choice to hangout obviously make them feel the most comfortable and happy.

Last Assigned Blog

So, this semester I learned that sociology sucks really bad. It was probably the most boring subject in my whole education career. I also, learned that being a kiss ass gets you very far haha. And probably the most important thing of all, I found that im probably the most skilled writer in my English class.... definetly just kidding.

Explain why you do or do not like to gamble.

I love gambling. It is just so much fun. I mean it sucks that almost every time I have gambled I lost some if not all of the money I had on me, but its exciting for that five minutes you do win. Its such an addicting habit. Roulette is the shit! If you haven't tried it out, I suggest you do.

In what situations can laughter be especially helpful? Why?

Laughter is good basically in any situation. Laughter is an ice breaker in awkward situations. If someone cracks a joke here and there at a meeting, it lightens up the atmosphere. Clearly laughter at a funeral wouldn't be very respectful, but some find it a way of remembering the positive things of the deceased. Laughing along with others in an embarrassing moment can make people feel more comfortable about what just happened to them.

Technology Essay

I am sorry but I absolutely hated writing this essay. For some reason I couldn't bring out my inner creativity for this one. I feel like I had to keep repeating myself over and over again to complete the minimum requirements. I probably shouldn't be admitting that to my teacher but you might notice it when you read it anyway. Or maybe you will, HOPEFULLY, read this after you grade it. haha

Bonus Blog!

One tradition I can not stand is Valentines Day. I absolutely hate this pointless tradition that every single person takes part in. If you really love someone you should show it everyday not just one day out of the year. Personally, last Valentines day sucked for me. Me and my girlfriend fought for a good twelve hours and even broke up for about five minutes. Great holiday right? haha

What should be done to "deadbeat parents" who dont pay child support?

I believe that any parent that cant support his or her child shouoldnt even have custody first of all. For the parents who do not pay child support, they should sit in jail and work there asses off in there to support their children. If you cant support the kids you shouldnt have had them in the first place.

How useful is the movie rating system?

The movie rating system is terrible. These critics are dull, assholes that have horrible senses of humor and dont know true genius when they see it. There have been entirely too many movies that critics mocked as being the worst movie of the century that I believed may have been the shit. You cant send some one who sucks at life to view a movie and rate it.

If you could have any special ability, what would it be?

If I had any type of special power, I think I would be typical and like to fly. Yea, I know everyone wants to know how to fly and its so common but, WHY THE HELL WOULDN'T YOU WANT TO FLY? Knowing how to fly would probably be the best thing thats every happened to me. What are you doing today? Oh im just gonna chill in the clouds for a bit, maybe cruise around the world a few times. It would be awesome.

Would you buy and use an electric car? Explain.

I would never, ever, ever buy an electronic or battery powered car. Its just not right to me, id feel like a girl. Hey look there is Dave in his pink battery powered beetle????? No way in hell. Im more about the speed/ turbo diesel type vehicle.

13th Assignment

I think you have made it quite clear of what to expect in ENGL 152. You have prepared us well for the following class and I think I will do well. I am ready for it.

Are Americans too dependent on the automobile? Discuss.

Americans are extremely dependent on the automobile. Im not going to lie, if I have to go to my friends two blocks away on a nice spring day im driving. I dont care that the excercise is good for me or how nice it is, id rather drive. There are many people that rely on bus or car to get to work. It is very rare that you see an older person riding there bike to work, unless you live in Bayville because people are just weird.

Do you function best in the morning, afternoon, or evening? Explain

I think I function best during the afternoon. Im sure it is clear when I sit in the back of the room with my blank stare some mornings that I am not the most chipper person in the morning. Sometimes I can be but not usually. At night I am so wiped out from the day that I just want to go to sleep. Making the afternoon the point that im most alive. I can actually think and be active.

12th Assignment

Absolutely not. A week is definetly plenty of time to complete a 700 word essay. Not to say that there is a need to decrease the time haha but a week is good enough. I honestly dont think that we are given that much work in your class at all, especially compared to some of my other classes. And thats my bad... I am not sure if I handed my sources in, but if I didnt I know I printed them out and highl8ighted my sections used so I will do that on Tuesday. Sorry.

11th Assignment

Im a little late with this one. The latest assignment was alright. I liked being able to choose my own topic but it was in an area im not very interested in. Nature isn't my thing. Im sorry but nothing can ever top the Community essay, that was an essay I really enjoyed.

Explain the chief reasons why students drop out of high school.

Drugs I think are one of the main causes of high school drop outs. I personally no a few people who started doing drugs and along the road decided to drop out. Drugs cause laziness and grades begin to drop which leads eventually to dropping out. Many drop outs also have family problems. Some kids are neglected by parents or live in a broken home where the parents may not even know if their child is in school or not.

What are the essential characteristics of an effective leader?

There are many characteristics to being an effective leader. Strong communication skills are definetly a must. If you can not learn how to speak to people and tell people how you want things done, you will get no where. Organizational skills and confidence in decision making is also very important. An effective leader has to be organized and have confidence because if people see that a leader does not have confidence in his or her decision, their subordinates will see weakness. Finally, being open to questions and listening to what people think is a must. An effective leader has to be an all around people person.

Should sex education be taught in publi schools? Why or why not?

Sex education should absolutely be taught in public schools. The younger that children learn about sex the more likely it is that they will not have any mishaps at a immature age. Many parents do not like there kids being taught about sex at a young age or them being taught by someone other than themselves. Problem with a parent teaching there kids about sex is many do not no as much about sex as a teacher would and may leave out detail.

Discuss what could be done to increase the public's respect for police.

Everyone should respect police officers. They put their lives on the line to keep our country safe. There are two things that could be done to gain respect towards police officers. Not that we could ever do this but put people in the shoes of police for a few days in places like Newark or Camden and maybe they will gain some respect. Or we can just let police take a week off and let them see what hell will come of the country.

Explain why do or do not vote.

I do not vote simply because I am way to lazy to get up and register first of all and second of all to go down to the elections and vote. I alos dont see how my one vote is gonna make that much of a difference. It is definetly a shitty attitude towards my right to vote but when im ready to vote, ill vote.

Was giving eighteen year olds the right to vote a bad idea?

Absolutely not. I am a firm believer in the whole, if you can send an 18 year old to war give him a dam beer. If you could send an 18 year old to war, he or she should be able to choose the official who is sending them there. Young adults have more insight on whats going on in the world today than many adults do.

Is college a good place to find out who you really are?

I believe that college is not the best place to find out who you really are. Basically everyone finds out the same thing in college: 1) they realize how lazy they really are or were 2) how much working is gonna suck. There are a lot of people who did not go to college and are extremely successful. College creates more confusion I believe than give the real you.

Discuss one cause for which you would be willing to risk your life.

There are honestly not many things that would cause me to risk my life in a bad situation. My girlfriend and family are the only reasons I would ever risk my life. Without my girlfriend or family I feel like I would be nothing anyway so I would do whatever I had to do to help them in any situation. I hate to say it, but if a random person is in need of help and I could die in the process of helping them, they are waiting for professionals.

Do you think you recieve your money's worth for student fees?

Certain areas in my criteria at OCC are definetly worth the tuition I pay. Clearly my English class is one of these classes that deserve the money I pay for them. Some of my classes are well worth the fee but others not so much. Such as my microeconomics class which consists of notes being handed out and a test four times throughout the semester, and thats literally it. Can I get some teaching skill for my money??????

Should children be disciplined by physical punishment?

I do not believe that children should be beat as a form of punishment which is how it sounds when you say physical punishment. A smack in the ass when a child is doing wrong is not a bad thing as long as ur not hitting this kid so hard that he is scarred for life. Physical punishment can only cause bad things down the road. If a child is beat as a form of punishment he or she will view this as the way to punish friends or other family members. This could also cause abusive adults and violence towards others.

Child Labor

It is crazy looking into other countries and how young their children begin to work. I read an article about a 14 year old boy in Egypt who for the past 4 years has worked at a brick plant loading donkey carts. We cant get 30 year old men to do work like this in our country and they have children doing this there. It just goes to show how lazy most Americans are in comparison. Children in America are pampered and dont have jobs basically till there 18.

No Credit

I just found out today from my Microeconomics teacher that basically all New Jersey state colleges are no longer accepting credits in four of the classes I have already taken. I am furious. How can Ocean County College require me to take these courses when I can not even use them in my future studies?

Assignment 8

I believe that we are having a very long streak of bad luck when it comes to the United States politicians. There is no real way to know how effective and to know how reliable our elected politicians will workout until they are actually in office. By that time it is to late. It is a shame but our elected leaders do reflect upon Americans because we are the ones who put them in their position. Whether it was unintentional or not, these assholes are still being put into office, our bad!

Goose Crap

Ocean County College has got to do something about the damn geese that flock to the campus. You can't take four steps in the Grass without stepping in geese shit. It's ridiculous. A lot of people think that the geese dropping act as a fertilizer, but it is actually highly toxic and has shut down parks in many local areas.

Spring Break

I really didn't do much of anything over spring break. I definetly enjoyed being able to sleep until I had to get up for work at four in the afternoon. I went out to eat with my girlfriend a few times, went to a few parties, and just chilled.

Drug Testing Employees

Many companies put current employees through drug testing. I don't believe a company should be allowed to do this because it is against the rights of the individual. If someone could show up to work high out of their mind and still do a better job than more than 75% of the other employees, than leave him the hell alone. The company shouldn't have any say in what the employees do after they leave the workplace.

Animals in Medical Research

Although I am against any type of cruelty to animals, I believe that medical research on certain animals is fine. It may sound contradicting but I do not classify a rat or a mouse an actual animal. I am totally against testing on any type of domestic animal such as dogs or cats. I feel that we are better off risking the life of a chicken than a human life. Here's an idea, don't like animal testing? Volunteer yourself or better yet, let's start taking more care of the overpopulated prisons!

Convicted Felons

I believe that convicted felons should be forced to serve out their whole sentence without parole depending on the crime. If someone goes to jail for rape, murder, or something of that nature they should rot in prison until their death. But if someone goes to jail for years for a pety crime, I believe that they should be given some type of parole. Throw a white boy who sold a little weed and got locked up for distribution for a couple years, I can promise you he will not even want to touch the stuff again after a month.

7th Assignment

I love your class. It is one of the few that I don't dread waking up to go to. I like the class discussions we have and also the essay topics we are given are fun. I don't like some of the material we have to read just because it is so boring and I have trouble getting through it. It also would be cool if we got out a little early some times. But besides that I definitely enjoy the class. Do you teach any other classes other than English 1? I would like to take another one of your classes next semester.

Chuck Norris in Iraq

So Chuck Norris enlisted and got flown to Iraq. BIG DEAL! The news is idolizing Chuck Norris for growing a set and flying to Iraq to support our country. There is literally a shrine set up at a military base in Baghdad to this actor. How about a shrine to honor the men who actually matter, like the men who have been in Iraq for years? Or a shrine to the men who have lost their lives in the fight? I think it is ridiculous that the news is making such a big deal over this not-so-great actor.

Government Officials Strike

Government employee such as fire fighters and police officers have just as much a right to go on strike as anyone else. If government employee feel that they are being mistreated, under paid, or what ever the matter may be and are fore seeing no change, they should be able to strike. If the government cant meet the needs and requirements to support police and fire fighters, then the government can find someone who is willing to work under their payouts and treatment.

Iliteracy In America

Iliteracy in America is a major issue which I think should have been taken care of a long time ago. Being iliterate in America restricts people to many things, job oppurtunity being one of the biggest in the long run. Iliteracy causes a lower self esteem and confidence level. Something that may help this problem is testing at an elementary level for any type of reading or writing issues in students. Most reading and writing testing does not occur until Intermediate or High school level which I believe may already be to late for some. If tests occur at a younger age it could greatly benefit the iliterate because it is much easier to learn at a younger age. Another solution to the issue is assigning tutors to those who find reading and writing difficult. Not only assign the tutor but also make it mandatory for them to be used by the student.

6th Assignment

I think that the generic traditions in family of today will eventually fade out. Family seems to be drifting further and further apart as generations pass. If you look back into the 1950's, family was much more valued than it is today. Back then, families were much closer than they are today. There is generally no such thing as the whole family sitting down to dinner every night of the week anymore.

Dont eat the snow

A recent study has showed that eating new fallen snow could be hazardous to your health. So now yellow snow isn't the only thing you have to worry about. Scientists have found that there is a small amount of bacteria in snow which kills various plants such as tomato and beans.

Im not going to lie, I really hate writing. I absolutely just suck at it, but this community essay is actually fun. Im actually enjoying writing this.

GUESS WHAT!

Go figure, rumor has it that Britney Spears may be pregnant again. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS WOMEN? She has had her husband leave her and her kids taken from her and she may be pregnant with another child. I dont understand how she could ever even consider another child after what she has put her children through already. So I guess the real question is; whos the father?

Community

I had alot of fun creating my community. The group decided to create a huge city based on sports. The community is designed under a gigantic dome. Each section of the city is based on a different major city of the United States, Times Square being the center, or capital of the city. A few of the many rules of the community are that everyone in the community must be between the ages of 18 and 35...if your not your kicked out and wont be accepted in, gambling and drinking age is 18, and an IQ test must be passed along with disease tests before entering. The community is a network of friends accepted by the committee, which is my group and me. The group generally got along in making these desicions, with exceptions to one.

New Cars

Nothing is greater than that moment you buy your first car. Its exciting for anyone. But nothing is worse than your first minor fender bender, or little ding that occurs to your newly purchased baby. Yesterday I got into my first little fender bender with my new car and it sucksssssss. But look on the bright side, the kid said F it to the damage and took off and I wasnt hurt.

U.S. Economy

Our nations economy is taking a turn for the worst. Our economies inflation is raising at such a rapid rate and Americans feel that our economy is the worst it has been in 14 years. According to ABC news, the economy is experiencing a stagflation, which is when the econonomy is at a severe low and the rate of inflation is severely high. The price of gas has also hit an all time high at $102 a gallon. Its ridiculous that such a powerful country cant take a strong hand on its economy.

Politics

There are more scandals, and rumors, and fraud in politics than in the everyday people. You would think that these people would be respectable, honest people being that they are running the United States of America. Like recently, our wonderful Republican presidential candidate, John Mccain has been accused of having an affair with a lobbyist. This is ridiculous! This man isn't even our president yet and there is already scandal on his back. Clinton, Bush, Watergate scandals... its just out of control.

Fourth Assignment

Im not gonna lie, I really dont like to read so i've never had any type of connection like this. I do believe that for someone who does enjoy reading this can occur. I have gotten these connections in many movies though. Alot of war movies have these amazing scenes where the underdog comes up with some absurd idea on how to defeat there rivals. These tactics come off as so unique to me. But when it comes to the reading, thats a big NO.

Billiards on ESPN

I was running on the treadmill at the gym today and I unfortunately choose the one that was right in front of a billiards tournament on ESPN. What the hell is that about???? Billiards is nothing but a bunch of old, overweight men doing tricks on a pool table. It's not a real sport.

3rd Assignment Response

I think that media outlets are most definetly just giving Americans what they ask for. I, personally could give a damn about what is going on in the life of the rich and famous. I think subjects like, maybe the war in Iraq, the presidential election, or whats going on economically in our country is a little bit more important than Lindsay Lohan's drug addiction. It's all about the ratings people.

8am to 7pm on a SATURDAY

Today has probably been the longest day of work ever. I, for some reason, decided to take on an eight in the morning to seven at night shift at the gym. Let me say it was THE WORST decision I have ever made. I feel like I have been sitting at the front desk for months. To top it all off, I did not make one sale. What a great day at work.

Amish Charter

I always thought that the government and politics had somewhat of a hold of its population, but after reading the essay by John A. Hostetler The Amish Charter I realize how we are nowhere even close to the discipline they retain. I could not imagine basing my enitre life on relgious practices. These people enjoy being the outsiders. They are absolutely content with living a life with no television, radio, automobiles or any form of entertainment. I know that I cannot servive a day without my cell phone and chances are not one of the people living in an Amish community have one. They cannot enjoy any of the things we enjoy everyday of our lives. NO colors, NO luxury items, and basically seems to me like NO fun.

Computer Class

It is 2:45pm and im sitting in my computer class. Im sorry but this is probably the most boring class im taking this semester. Im nodding off, it's ridiculous. I am paying to be taught something I learned about 8 years ago?
